Vegas Vow Renewal

June 23, 2015 8:46 pm Published by 2 Comments

I had the honor and pure joy of being a guest at my friends' Tina and Mickey's vow renewal in Las Vegas this past weekend. To celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, they decided to do a wedding pt. II with Elvis officiating this time around. They sent out a Paperless Post that stated "NO RSVP, JUST COME PARTY." Hawaiian attire was encouraged. I was in. Having subjected myself and my loved ones to the most unnecessarily intense wedding planning process over the past year and a half, Tina was exactly the type of bride (ie not a bridezilla) I needed to be around...View Article

Happy Father’s Day!

June 21, 2015 12:27 pm Published by Comments Off on Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father's Day to all you daddies out there, especially mine! My Dad, Murry (or MurMan, as Tony likes to call him), is the best. He was born to be a dad, and I'm especially lucky that he was so spectacular at being a father to a daughter. I've talked before about his ability to braid hair, all the times he sat in the football stands when I was cheerleading captain in high school to hold up a "D" or "O" sign for me so I'd know which cheers to call, since I couldn't be bothered to learn the rules of football. How he and my mom drove to L.A. nearly every weekend for 6 months to see me perform in the Groundlings Sunday Company. And now, he reads my blog every day and emails me to tell me he loved it and he's proud of me. But what has moved me the most about this past year and a half is how involved my dad has been in the planning of Tony and my wedding. You always hear about how wedding planning bonds a mother and a daughter, but no one told me how much closer it would bring me to my dad...View Article

June Book Club: CAN’T WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MORE PLEASANT?

June 19, 2015 7:00 am Published by Comments Off on June Book Club: CAN’T WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MORE PLEASANT?

In honor of Father's Day this weekend, I've selected Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast for June's Book Club. It's a memoir about aging parents, which seems like a beautiful way to honor my dad! HI DAD! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! CAN YOU BELIEVE YOU'VE BEEN A DAD FOR ALMOST THIRTY YEARS?! IT DOESN'T GET EASIER, DOES IT?! (I also picked this book because it's been on my list for months, and people keep telling me how incredible it is. I love anything that makes me cry from laughing and cry from feeling all the feelings, and this National Book Award Finalist apparently achieves both in spades...)View Article

in the name of beauty… SUNSCREEN PILLS!

June 18, 2015 8:12 am Published by 4 Comments

Guys, I have a confession to make. I bought some pills online and I have no idea what's really in them (Polypodium leucotomos Calaguala extract appears to be the active ingredient), but I'm slurping one down every morning because it's supposed to preserve my youth. Or, technically, help "maintain the skin's ability to protect against sun-related effects and aging." They're called Heliocare Oral Capsules. I'm telling myself that it's basically like drinking sunscreen.View Article

Don’t Forget To Send A Father’s Day Card!

June 17, 2015 11:48 am Published by Comments Off on Don’t Forget To Send A Father’s Day Card!

I had a mini panic attack last night around 1am when I realized Father's Day is this weekend, and I have done jack diddly for my sweet dad. ("Jack diddly" is my dad's term for doing absolutely nothing, so I felt it's use was apropos.) I've gone into a feral state of "wedding mode," swapping showers and conversation for obsessive flower girl dress researching (necessary after J.Crew screwed us over) and second-guessing my glassware choices (probably not the best use of my time). And my dad has willingly crawled down that rabbit hole with me; his generous involvement in the planning of the wedding is a blog in and of itself, but let's just say this good ol' Texan is now well versed in the various strains of peonies. My dad is the best. And I almost forgot to send him a Father's Day card. Lucky for me, Postable exists...View Article

Perfect Petite Party Favors

June 15, 2015 6:00 pm Published by 2 Comments

I got home from my bachelorette party late last night and it was the happiest, most fun weekend of my life! I've been looking forward to my wedding since I was just a wee toddler with visions of tulle, flower petals and cake behind my eye patch, and it is overwhelming (in the most beautiful way possible) that everything I've looked forward to my entire life is finally, actually happening. And this past weekend was more than I ever dreamed of. I'm still soaking up the memories (and booze), so I'll share all of the pictures and stories from the party later this week. But in the meantime, here are party favors I put together as a small Thank You gift for the epic weekend my friends put together...View Article

lovable links

June 11, 2015 3:21 pm Published by Comments Off on lovable links

I'm feeling like a chicken running around with my head cut off this week. I've turned our dining room table into the Wedding Central Command Station, and am spending my days scrambling to remember everything I need to do, and accomplish it before I forget again. I've written so many To Do lists online and around the house, it's on a few of the To Do lists to find where I put the rest of the To Do lists. I'm so excited for our wedding, but I'm sincerely concerned the day will arrive and I'll remember that morning it was on some To Do list to buy shoes, and I'll have to wander down the aisle barefoot (not that that is a terrible idea... I'd at least be comfortable). I'm trying to cut myself some slack and remember that as long as Tony and I are there, everything will be great. And, I'm trying to make space in my life for the things and people who are important to me, so I don't become a bride robot. Tony and I spent the morning volunteering at CHLA, we're catching a screening of Jurassic World with some friends later today, and I leave for my bachelorette party (!!!!!!!!) tomorrow morning. Things are good, and I'm really lucky. If you feel like your brain is melting, too, here are a few distractions... The clickbait circulating around the internet that got my attention this week:View Article
