In honor of the Oscars this Sunday, I present you with this photograph of my seminal role as Elf #12 in a community ballet production of Cinderella, circa 1998. It should be noted that this was the only role in the entire show that did not require any dancing, a fact that was completely lost on me, as I’ve never felt more graceful or beautiful as I did onstage that day. It was also the first (and last) award I won for my acting abilities, the Heart In Your Part Award. I’m fairly certain that if Peter Jackson had been in the audience, he would have cast me as Gollum based on my body movements of choice. Only years later did it occur to me that I was given this role, as well as the Heart In Your Part award, because I was as passionately committed as I was horrible a dancer.
