{sick puppy}
Today, I’m most grateful that my sweet baby Maggie was stung by a bee and not bitten by a spider! This blog is coming up later than usual because we had a scare when her left eye swelled up a little bigger than a golf ball this morning. I may or may not have sobbed melodramatically, “If she dies, I WILL DIE!” Luckily, after some Benadryl, calming words from my vet tech mother-in-law and several hours of forced snuggling, her face is slowly de-puffing back to normal. One of the (very few) downsides of living in the hills is the number of spiders we get up here. I see Black Widows more frequently than I would like, and my heart stopped when that looked like it could be the culprit today, so I am feeling incredibly lucky that it was just an unfortunate bee sting.
Aside from today’s drama, this has been a quiet week of getting back to our normal routine after a solid month of traveling for my birthday and all of the press surrounding School of Rock‘s premiere. (My “normal routine” means holing up like an agoraphobic hermit, writing at my kitchen table in my pajamas/sweats/the clothes I just worked out in, and eating all day.) We tried to cook at home and have dinner outside up on our deck nearly every night this week too, which has been the loveliest way to embrace spring. The added bonus in this is that we make actually eye contact and talk, instead of stuffing our faces like zombies while we catch up on TV.
This weekend, I’m excited to watch two of our dear friends get married in Lake Arrowhead, and see if I can get Tony to try a new hiking spot or two now that Runyon Canyon is closed. I hope you have the happiest weekend!
{My new favorite cookbook, which we cooked all of our recipes for Easter from, and dinner almost every night this week. SO funny, SO delish.}
{A surprise belated birthday gift of 100 roses from Tony’s childhood best friend//college roommate//groomsman Rob}
{A billboard for School of Rock going up on the side of Paramount!!!!!}
{Eating Easter candy for dinner on the nights we didn’t cook}
{A lovely note from a lovely reader}
{Serving as directer//cinematographer//assistant//stunt girl//set photographer for my husband’s Snapchat. Here’s a little BTS shot from our Easter shoot. THIS IS MY LIFE NOW.}
{Tippi clinging to my leg for dear life when we ran into her mortal enemy (our favorite neighbor Alanna’s dog) on a walk}
{Homemade empanadas from a friend. BEST GIFT EVER.}
{The prettiest daisies from my husband. This was taken before the roses arrived.}
{That the barista thought my name is “Alm.” I mean, I get it. Alm is MUCH more common than Annie. *UPDATE* My husband has informed me that “Alm” is for almond milk. Clearly, I was not in on the joke. What a letdown.}
{Hosting Easter at our house, a first that we loved so much we’d like to make an annual tradition.}

I have been wanting that cookbook! Glad to hear it’s as amazing as I wanted it to be!
Tony and I are OBSESSED. We love the cheesy cheeseless eggs, the french toast casserole, the coconut rice and the chicken lettuce wraps the best so far! But it’s just as fun just reading it, she is so funny. Let me know which recipes you like if you end up getting it!
Wow! You are the lovely one, Annie!
I didn’t think much of it (both times), it was just a fact. You share so much of your life with your readers. I kept up with your wedding planning, all the fun times, the drama (doesn’t get any better than flower shipping drama!!!), I thought of you on your wedding day… I can call each of your furry friends by name… You feel like a friend, and that is the best compliment any blogger could get!
Also, Maggie… poor baby. Glad it wasn’t anything more serious.
Raquel!!!!! You are the sweetest of all time, this is the most beautiful and gracious note. Getting lovely words like this is the best part of blogging (and keeps me going when I worry it’s not going to turn into a career.) Thank you for Maggie’s well wishes, AND for thinking of us on our wedding day!! Our photos are going to be published soon and I can’t wait to FINALLY share, I’m going to do a wedding week on the blog with all of the stuff from that happy day. THANK YOU AGAIN!!
So glad Maggie is ok!! I know the feeling! When my childhood dog who past away w few years ago got stung by a bee I cried and cried and cried… I was 18 hahaha. He was totally fine but when I saw his face the size of a basketball I thought for sure he’d be dead in minutes! Fortunately, bee stings look much worse than they are :)
Oh no!!!!! Haha, you totally know the feeling! Omg, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. So so so so grateful it wasn’t anything worse. Thanks for the sweet note, have the best rest of your weekend!! X A
Tippi oh noooo
Also, so glad Maggie’s okay!
Thank you!!!!!!
