Tony is currently road-tripping across the country with his brother, so I'm spending a lot of time talking to my dogs and trying to get work done. (*By "work done," I mean reading self help books and writing to the point that I feel - and look - a little bit like Jack Nicholson in "The Shining.") Aside from counting the days until Dry January is over (5, although technically I should be going until February 4, but probably won't because Monday February 1 is our 6-month wedding anniversary and I want to celebrate with a bottle of champagne and a pile of cupcakes), here is the clickbait I'm currently trolling... HAPPY HUMP DAY!View Article

Tony and I went on an impromptu rainy day date last night and finally caught a screening of "Joy," which I'd been dying to see. I loved it. Both of us got a little verklempt at the story of the "American Dream," and left feeling really lucky that we were both raised by parents who told us we could be anything we wanted when we grew up. As we kick off 2016 and I re-focus on how to succeed in the industry I've chosen, this was the right movie to see at the right time and, for me, was as inspiring as it was entertaining. Chasing a career in Hollywood is kind of like being the drunk girl riding the mechanical bull at Saddle Ranch; no matter how many times she gets thrown off, she still hobbles back on for more. (Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything...) According to Albert Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results; and yet, everybody in this town wakes up every day thinking, maybe this audition will be different. This screenplay will be different. This blog will be different. So, I liked watching a movie about a girl who was chasing a dream and not a man, and would not give up. I strongly suggest you play hooky from work and go see it. But, if you can't do that and are still looking for distractions, here are the other things making me happy this hump day... HAPPY WEDNESDAY! It's closer to Friday than not!View Article
Tony and I are together again!!!!! Since we are both co-dependent newlyweds with separation anxiety playing the long game, we're trying really hard to abide by the "Hollywood marriage rule" of never spending more than two weeks apart. But, it's the holidays and this time of year is nuts. I was resigning myself to our breaking the rule a mere 4 months into our marriage when Tony emailed me with surprise plane tickets and a night at one of our favorite hotels in the world, the Hotel Saint Cecilia in Austin, on his day off. We'd both only gotten 2 hours of sleep the night before, so we took a 4-hour nap, wandered around the neighborhood and had dinner at Uchiko, where we ended up ordering seconds on everything it was so good. Despite having just recently chowed down on several breakfast tacos, Tony and I are going for a run along the river (wish us luck). Then, we're driving back to Victoria, where Tony will be shooting all night. If you're having as much trouble focusing on work as I am this morning, here is some clickbait for you to dive into...View Article
I am in full "Grey Gardens"-mode these days, now that Tony's been shooting a movie in Texas for nearly a week. I've been sleeping with the alarm on because I'm a paranoid nutjob, but forgot about that this morning and woke all of Los Angeles up when I let the dogs out and the alarm blasted the hills. And here I am last night, playing dress up and eating Candy Cane-flavored Joe-Joe's while trying to figure out how to use the new-fangled TV remote Tony hooked up. Not pictured: My eating pants and slippers. Spoiler alert: I could not figure out the remote, so here's what I trolled on the internet instead...View Article
THANKSGIVING IS COMING! THANKSGIVING IS COMING! It's a madhouse of cooking up in here. I'm elbow deep in another batch of my GrandBettye's Texas Pecans, chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin cupcakes with orange cream cheese frosting. I'm doing as much baking as I can today, so I have time to bathe and not panic-cry tomorrow as Tony and I host our first Turkey Day. I gotta dash back to fighting my dad for cooking counter space, but here's what I'm trolling on the worldwide web while he's spread out making his *famous homemade key lime pie. (*Famous in our house.) Have the most beautiful Thanksgiving! I hope it's full of love, gratitude, tryptophan and the family you've chosen (whether it's the one you were born into, the one you met along the way, or a hodge podge of both.) I'll be back Friday, 10 pounds heavier with this week's gratitude list - as always, at the top of it is YOU for reading Heels in the Hills. Thank you. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!View Article
It's 5am, SoCal time. I'm flying to Texas this morning, where I'll be shooting AN AMERICAN IN TEXAS for the next few days! My parents roll into town later today with their two giant dogs, and they'll be staying with us for over a week. Tony will be spending lots of one-on-one time with them while I'm gone because he is a saint. We're hosting Thanksgiving this year, and so far there are 9 confirmed dogs on the guest list. (Again, Tony is a saint.) I'm off for the airport... Here are the articles I'll be trolling while I wait for my flight!View Article
