My friend Christie Bishop (a badass businesslady boss in the corporate world and wife of "The Adam Carrolla Show"'s Bryan "Bald Bryan" Bishop) calls cooking a "hobby," but eating at her house is like eating at a restaurant. Do you remember the salted caramel peanut butter cup brownies she made for my bachelorette party? I do. I dream of them most nights. I love pasta with a passion most people save for humans, so the idea of shredding up a zucchini and calling it "pasta" sounds like blasphemy. But, Christie does it and I like to do whatever Christie does, so I Amazon Prime'd myself a spiralizer. Here is her favorite way to get your veggies in and indulge in "healthy" pasta...View Article

I like to mix this baby up in the AM because I feel like I'm drinking all of the healthy things I need in one fell swoop, and am thus giving myself permission to eat cupcakes and fried chicken for the rest of the day. (Nutritionists tell me that is not how that works, but I disagree.) I love all things spicy, and when I sip this it almost feels like I'm drinking a jalapeƱo margarita with my breakfast (not gonna lie, I did in fact use the leftover jalapeƱos from my homemade spicy tequila for a few mornings, so I guess they were morning margaritas. I choose to call them "Tequila-Flavored Green Juices.") But this recipe is alcohol-free because it's Dry January and we're all trying to be "new me's" in this new year! So sip on, and know you're giving your body the nutrients it needs to fight those cupcake/fried chicken/tequila binges.View Article
My bestie came over for a holiday cocktail sleepover! ON A MONDAY BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE JOBS! It ended with both of us singing two different songs at the same time thinking we were singing the same song, and then me sitting down to write this, so please forgive any and all grammatical errors. Here are four delish recipes to take the edge off the holiday season. HAPPY COCKTAILIDAYS!View Article
Last week, I shared my GrandBettye's recipe for corn pudding, a Thanksgiving staple in our house. By now, you probably have Thursday's menu planned but (if you're like me) haven't actually done the shopping yet. (Full disclosure: Gonna make Tony do it. Sorry, Tone.) So, if you still have a grocery store run on your To Do list, add these ingredients for an easy make-ahead appetizer: My GrandBettye's recipe for Texas Pecans. They're simple and quick to make and are addictive. So so so delicious. Around the holidays, I'm constantly making them; baking these suckers makes the house smell amazing, and it's nice to have a snack on hand when people drop by unexpectedly. I'm sharing them today because, if you're hosting Thanksgiving, the last thing you need to worry about is also making appetizers. Bake these in advance, throw them on a cheese platter with some dried cherries and crackers, and you are good to go. And if someone else is hosting, these make a great hostess gift that your loved one can stress-eat while trying to figure out how to un-burn the turkey. ENJOY!View Article
In anticipation of Thanksgiving next week, I'm sharing my GrandBettye's Corpus Christi Corn Pudding recipe on the blog today. I took over making it for the holidays - it's my brother Billy's favorite and Tony always asks me to make it on his birthday, too. We had our caterer make it for our wedding so GrandBettye could be a part of the day even if she couldn't be there, and of all the recipes I make, this is the one people ask me for the most...View Article
The one upside to gaining weight is that your boobs get bigger... Every other aspect blows. I've been partying hard since arriving in Tahoe for our wedding a few months ago, and the jig is finally up. I tried to get into a pair of pants yesterday that fit just fine pretty recently. I eventually got them on, but it was a sweaty struggle that left me in tears and left a mark on my belly when I wriggled out of them at the end of the day. (I still had a cupcake - wearing said pants - later in the day because I have zero self control.) I LOVE to eat. I live to eat. Whoever said nothing tastes as good as skinny feels (Kate Moss, maybe? Probably.) never ate pasta at Jon & Vinny's, or pizza at Sotto, or beef and pickle tacos at Escuela Taqueria, or a cheeseburger at The Nice Guy, or a fried chicken sandwich at The Darkroom, or cake at SusieCakes... You see how I got myself into this little (literal) jam. So, in anticipation of the holidays, I'm attempting to eat healthy and make the slow, miserable crawl back toward my wedding-weight. In an effort to make it slightly less miserable, I'm trying to come up with low-calorie spins on my favorite dishes. Like today: Chicken salad.View Article
Guys, this basic bitch loves her some pumpkin. And food in adorable mason jars. So this one is a slam dunk home run. But, as you know, health food is not usually my M.O.... I'm more a tacos-and-cake kinda girl. But baby's been having some trouble squeezing into my pants since the binge that kicked off with the wedding and continued on our honeymoon, while Tony was working in Canada, my trip to Austin, AND the general ennui of "I'll never have to fit in a wedding gown again." So, I'm particularly thrilled to share a healthy version of this normally-sinfully-delicious dessert. I've had it for breakfast every day this week, and plan to continue to do so until 1) my pants fit again, or 2) I get sick of it...View Article
You guys know I am all about entertaining, so it pains me to be out of town on a long weekend ripe for party-throwing. The food truck scene up here in Vancouver almost makes up for it (I had a pizza-sandwich for lunch that was a real game-changer for both my soul and my waistline)... Almost. I hope you are all getting a half-day tomorrow and have plans to eat, drink, wear white for the last time if you follow society laws or sit in traffic on your way to Burning Man. If I were throwing down with my friends this weekend, here's what I'd be making...View Article
