BADCOMPANY

I love writing for this blog every day. It gives me a sense of consistency and routine, and the support and feedback has been amazing – and, something I’m very, very grateful for. Hollywood can be brutal, and it’s been freeing and empowering to put my writing out into the world on this platform, while my scripts sit in some executives’ drawers in various stages of development, hoping to eventually see the light of day (and the big/small/iPhone screen).

Same goes for performing. I love it. I’ve loved it since I was cast as Elf #12 in the local ballet production of Cinderella, the only non-dancing role in the show. I won the Heart in Your Part award, and never considered a “real” career from that moment on. Who wants to be a doctor when you can wear wigs or audition to be the Vagisil spokeswoman for a living??

But until someone decides to cast an age-appropriate “maybe albino?” as the love interest for TV’s next hit manchild, I’m writing and performing my own shit, and paying myself in tacos. And I’m super excited about the two shows I have coming up: Bad Company at the Groundlings Theatre this Thursday April 30th at 10pm, an improv show featuring former Sunday Company members that was created by Guy Stevenson, one of my mentors and favorite performers to come out of the Groundlings, and best writers in Hollywood. The cast this month includes Liz Feldman (creator of NBC’s One Big Happy) – and me! And then next Thursday, May 7th at 10pm, also at the Groundlings Theatre, I’m in MOMCOM, a Mother’s Day-themed show featuring sketches about moms, written and performed by some of the funniest people I know. And that’s even better than starring in my own TV show that I also wrote!

*The last statement is not true. Hollywood, for the love of god and Tom Cruise, please buy one of my scripts, make it and let me be in it so I can afford a beach house and an assistant who has guacamole and frosting on hand at all times and is willing to spoon feed it to me like I’m a baby bird. But, performing in these two upcoming shows is a CLOSE second to that fantasy!
