Happy 2nd Birthday Heels in the Hills

Two years ago today, I launched this blog. It was under a different name, I posted sporadically and it was all about my wedding. 730 days later (I had to use a calculator to figure that out, FYI), it has become Heels in the Hills, a place were I post every weekday. A lot has happened in those two years. We expanded our family to the point where dogs outnumber people (I adopted our latest puppy while Tony was in Vegas at a bachelor party). The site has evolved into a lifestyle blog, where I write about food, fashion, beauty, home, books and more, in addition to my relationship. Tony and I got married. I received notes from readers all over the world, giving me a sense of relief that more people are looking at Heels in the Hills beyond my mom’s book club as well as a sense of comfort that, even though I may not have sold a screenplay or become a movie star (yet), I am achieving my dream of entertaining people. It’s grown from a hobby on Tumblr to a real, full-fledged blog that I love to write and am proud of.

However, throughout it all, the heart of this blog has stayed the same. I share stories about my life that I hope will make you laugh, the recipes that I am cooking, the clothes I am wearing, the bizarre beauty products and sunscreens I’m trying out in hopes of pickling and preserving my 29-year-old self in perpetuity. I share when things go right, and I share when I’m having a crap day. Today, I will share that I did my hair and make-up to make my sweet husband take my picture for this post, but didn’t steam my wrinkly dress, wore slippers throughout the shoot and, while going through the photos afterward, miserably exclaimed “When I smile for real, my chin and neck become one!”

I hope I feel like a friend to you, and share enough that you can see I don’t have it all worked out (not even close). In the years since I started this blog, I watched my husband’s dreams come true as he landed the job of a lifetime, but I’m still chasing mine. I know a lot of you are in the same boat. It makes me feel less alone knowing that you’re reading, and I so love hearing from you – I hope you know your comments and emails inspire me as I hope my blog inspires you. I’m excited for us to grow together.

In a shameless request for compliments (and, more importantly, feedback), why do you like Heels in the Hills? What would you like to see more of?

As always, thank you so much for your readership and support. This blog is still very much a baby (both in its infancy and preciousness to me), and I’m working every day to get the word out. If you feel so inclined, please share it and follow me on the all-important social media: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. (I hope reading that plug didn’t make you feel as gross as it did me to write.)

Thank you again! PLEASE have a glass (or bottle) of champagne to celebrate for me, since I’m currently suffering from Dry January… Although I will probably treat myself to a cupcake (or a dozen) from SusieCakes, because I’m still me. X A

Happy 2nd Birthday, Heels in the Hills!

Congratulations on keeping it up :) Without a doubt one of my favourite blogs out there! It’s both comforting and inspiring to read an honest account of someone just trying to figure it all out in such a genuine way: it brings me hope and makes me feel less alone :) Sending love and hugs from England Xx

Annie! I can’t believe I’ve been reading this blog for two years. I love every post-you do feel like a friend and it’s always a high point in my day when I see a new post. One of my favorite things about your blog is how real and refreshing it is. You have such a great voice of someone my age who has goals and dreams but is still working out how to get there. I feel like I’m going through a lot of the same things that you are and even went through my wedding around the same time as you–it is so nice to hear someone else going through the same things and how you are dealing with them. I love that you share the good and the bad and so much of your life with us. I would love to hear more stories from your past–i loved the post about how you got to L.A. and would love to hear more about that sort of stuff. Can’t wait to see what year 3 brings! Xx Heidi

Annie, I’m sorry I don’t post much, but I read your blog every single day. It has made me laugh, cry, hungry, “thirsty”, and anxious to read the latest of your book recommendations. You have become such a beautiful, talented young woman and I truly enjoy following your life. I just know that many more good things are coming your way. Happy Anniversary!!!
    Hugs to you and Tony❤️
