Valentine's Day Gift Guide

{FYI, I bought those macarons for this photo shoot and then rabidly ate them all to hide the evidence they ever existed}

Tony and I are low-key when it comes to Valentine’s Day (one of the few times in my life I can honestly say I’m “low-key.”) Restaurants are packed, the waitstaff is stressed out (I used to be a hostess, I know) and the prixe fixe menus are obscenely expensive. That, coupled with the immense amount of pressure to make this the most romantic night of the year, is a recipe for disaster. That said, I love Valentine’s Day! It bums me out when people say it’s just a Hallmark holiday. Why not have a day to celebrate love, however you have it in your life — your partner, friends, kids or pets? I love embracing all of the other cheesy holiday cliches: Flowers, candy, sweet notes and lots of pink. For Tony and me, celebrating means spending time outside with our dogs, whether it be a hike or a picnic, and cooking dinner at home before curling up in front of the TV. Sure, we do this most days… But on Valentine’s Day, Tony eats carbs and I put on my nice sweatpants. It’s a win for everyone. Still, this girl loves presents (you show me a girl who doesn’t and I’ll show you a liar), and a few people have emailed me to see what I’m getting Tony this year, so I thought I’d put together a gift guide. Here are a few ideas for the loves of your life, whether it be your lady, boyf or bestie (for the love of love, do not forget your single friends who want to crawl into a time machine and come out February 15). Happy Heart Day, lovies!

FOR HER

Class at Fleurish This one’s more original and fun than just giving a bouquet of flowers. I’ve been dying to try a class at this DIY flower-design studio (and if you don’t live in L.A., many local florists offer similar flower-arranging classes.) I want to learn how to make a flower crown!

Tom Ford lipstick Hands down, my favorite lipstick brand (also the most expensive, but worth it. One swipe lasts through lunch/hours). I just bought Pink Dusk (pictured above) and am in love, I read in In Style magazine recently that Taylor Swift is into Spanish Pink and Blush Nude is my forever-standby. Or, you could get her the lipstick named after you – they just released a line of lipsticks named after boys (here’s Tony).

Blow-out at Drybar Book her an appointment to get her hair done before you take her out to dinner (or better yet, make her dinner). She will LOVE IT.

Shari’s Berries You can’t go wrong with chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers and champagne. (Bonus points if you can track down peonies.)

Pampering gear Dr. Jart+ face masks, candles (Diptyque are my favorite), anything Le Labo (the spa line our favorite hotel, the Hotel Saint Cecilia, carries.)

Emerson Ryder jewelry Our friend Alana designs it. It is EXQUISITE.

Soludos Beyond cute and so comfy.

Macarons My favorite in L.A. are from La Provence Patisserie.

This robe.

And this vegan, cruelty-free makeup bag for your newly single friend.

FOR HIM

Shiatsu Foot Massager My friend’s pro-baseball player husband has one and loves it. I think Tony goes to their house just to use it.

Shiasu Back & Neck Massager For the exact same reasons as stated above.

Hammer & Nails gift card A grooming place for guys, with leather seats, comp bevs and personal TV’s. Because all boys secretly love mani/pedi/pampering, even if they won’t admit it.

“The Walking Dead” Graphic Novels I don’t know what Tony loves more, the show or the books.

This shirt, which Tony is so obsessed with he owns it in several colors.

A comic book coffee table book cool/pretty enough you won’t mind having it lying around.

Hair stuff he wouldn’t splurge on himself. (Not naming names, but I know someone who loves this one and this one. Bonus: You can borrow/steal them, too.)

FOR EVERYONE

Massages at The Now Massages starting at $35 in a gorg setting. Yes please.

Facials at FaceHaus $55 facials. Tony is as obsessed with this place as I am.

Duff’s Cakemix DIY Decorating This one is especially great if you have kids. (And if you don’t live in L.A., buy cake mix, frosting and fun decorating materials at the store – Michael’s has great and cheap cake decorating items. Then, bake your cake at home on Valentine’s Day AND eat it, too.)

A homemade picnic outside! Cook your favorite dishes together for dinner! It’s cheesy and cliche (much like Valentine’s Day itself), but the best gift really is time together.
