gratitude list

Today, I'm launching a new series: GRATITUDE LIST. It was Tony's idea, and I loved it. He takes stock of things he is grateful for as soon as he wakes up and before he goes to bed, and I see the happiness, peace and fulfillment it brings him. I think this practice contributes to his open heart and ability to "live in the moment," something that I strive for. There have been countless studies demonstrating that being grateful makes you happier, and I want to make a conscious effort to really appreciate the things in my life instead of always chasing down the next thing. So, here is what I am grateful for right now...View Article

Guys, I am loving Vancouver. Tony and I get to live in a hotel for a few weeks, giving me full license to pretend I'm an adult Eloise and do all of my work in a bathrobe. Food trucks are parked daily within walking distance. And there is a beautiful run nearby that goes along the waterfront; I've timed my jogs to coincide with the daily walk of a golden retriever I'm currently stalking (we didn't get to bring our 3 mutts and I miss them something awful.) Being holed up here without any friends is giving me a lot of time to get work done; I'm really excited about my post-wedding plans for the blog, and am also working on a web series my friend Kim and I are planning to star in together. Because nothing says cliche quite like being an L.A.-based blogger-writer-actress who's pitching a web series! When I'm not anxiously chasing down my dreams, here is the clickbait that's distracted me during my stay so far in Canada...View Article

Our Living Room & Dining Room Redecoration Project

August 26, 2015 4:11 pm Published by 2 Comments

I've lived in our house since January of 2010, and fell in love with it partly because of its open floor plan and giant picture windows. But, because I've lived there so long, I outgrew my 23-year-old decorating taste... Which was primarily driven by studs. Studded everything. I called it "Old Hollywood Glamour," but looking at it now, it strikes me as more "Kardashian Glamour." The accent walls were a burnt orange when I moved in, and one of the first changes I made was painting them bright blue. When Tony and I got engaged years later, it seemed like a good time to make a style change to go along with this new chapter in our life together. And to lose a few of the studs and make it look like a man also lived there. Here are the changes we made, with lots of help and guidance from one of our best friends and interior design extraordinaire Amber McDermitt, co-founder of Spruce Design & Organization...View Article

OH BABY! A Major Misunderstanding…

August 25, 2015 4:02 pm Published by Comments Off on OH BABY! A Major Misunderstanding…

My mom's first question when Tony and I got back from our honeymoon wasn't "Did you have fun?" It was "ARE YOU PREGNANT????" I'm NOT. The waiter who served me sushi and two tequila cocktails last night can attest to that fact, and so can my doctor. However, something must have been in the air, because Tony told my agent that I AM, in fact, pregnant. Worse, he emailed my agent from my email account, as me, so it seemed like I was telling her I'm pregnant. It was all an accident, just a big misunderstanding. Here's how it went down...View Article

Airplane Travel Essentials

August 24, 2015 4:10 pm Published by 2 Comments

Tony and I flew to Vancouver yesterday for a movie he'll be shooting over the next few weeks. I came with him to keep this honeymoon going! And also because we're newlyweds and I want to be together in the beginning of this exciting new chapter of our lives. And also because the food here is great. It's up to you to decide which the driving reason was. (If you know me, you will vote food.) We spent most of the day in a blind rage, as United Airlines managed to screw up essentially every single aspect of our travel plans. After being delayed an hour and then sitting on the tarmac for almost another hour because they were 500 lbs overweight and had to take all the suitcases off to figure out which were incorrectly loaded on (if you recently lost a suitcase, it was probably on our plane), missing our connection, and then having to go through security twice because they said they booked us on a new flight in a new terminal that they, in fact, did NOT book us on... I am really grateful I remembered to pack/wear all of these items. Here are my airplane travel essentials!View Article

St. Regis Bora Bora LAGOON By Jean Georges Restaurant’s Rice Cracker Crusted Tuna With Sriracha-Citrus Emulsion

August 20, 2015 5:52 pm Published by Comments Off on St. Regis Bora Bora LAGOON By Jean Georges Restaurant’s Rice Cracker Crusted Tuna With Sriracha-Citrus Emulsion

In my continued celebration of Honeymoon Week here on Heels in the Hills, today I'm sharing the recipe for one of Tony and my favorite meals of our trip: The rice cracker crusted tuna with sriracha-citrus emulsion at LAGOON by Jean Georges. Think of it as sashimi encrusted in homemade Saltines with tiny chunks of sea salt, and a sriracha-citrus spin on In-N-Out sauce... HEAVEN.View Article

Budget Buy Vacation Romper

I've decided it's Honeymoon Week here on Heels in the Hills, mostly because all I can think about is our happy time in Bora Bora and I want to continue living in the past for just a few more days. I wrote yesterday about how hard we partied at the buffet and I'm not gonna lie, by the end of the trip I was only wearing one-piece swimsuits to serve as ocean-friendly Spanx, but luckily I was still able to squeeze myself into this romper a few days before we had to head home...View Article

Our Bora Bora Honeymoon

Tony and I got back from our honeymoon late Saturday night. It was the best trip of our lives. We went to Tahiti and stayed at The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, where we were treated like royalty. (*They know how to treat royalty, too. Jen Aniston & co. may have been staying at the Four Seasons next door while we were there, but the Princess of Qatar was staying at The St. Regis with us.) Coming off of one year, seven months and two days of wedding planning that ramped up to a feverish, dizzying speed of overwhelming joy and emotion for those last few weeks, Tony and I were exhausted. I think everyone is after a wedding. But we were so lucky that we got to take off for some R&R while my parents were still cleaning up the catering staff's cigarette butts off the beach in Tahoe (thanks again, Mom). And there is no better place in the world for rest and relaxation than Bora Bora...View Article
