You guys, I am FULLY aware that it is basically the end of July and I'm just now getting my sh*t together for our virtual book club. I am ALSO aware that I chose the most talked about book of the summer, "The Girls" by Emma Cline. I've been dying to pick it up since I read that it was written by a 27-year-old who was paid a (reported) $2 MILLION DOLLAR ADVANCE to write it, her debut novel. WHAT. I'm a jealous and competitive person by nature (hello, I picked a career in Hollywood, arguably the nastiest industry on the planet!), so I had to read it to see what was up. I'm so glad I did, because it is beautifully written and impossible to put down.View Article
This week, I am most grateful that WE FINALLY GOT A MATTRESS for the new house!!!!!! (We'd been sleeping on a queen size blow up mattress for nearly 3 weeks with 3 dogs. Tony and I usually woke up half on the floor, with the dogs comfortably sprawled out in between us.) Here are the other things I am grateful for this week...View Article
I am a makeup junkie (which is a polite term for makeup hoarder), and tend to hold onto everything, so I've got a lot of products I dip into every now and then but last way past their expiration date because they're used so infrequently. However, I reach for Laura Mercier's Caviar Sticks so often I find myself having to buy new ones all the time. They're so fast and easy - color on your eye like a crayon, blend it with your finger and you're good to go. And it lasts all day (even through sweat sessions at the gym, or a day at the beach. I know this because I wear makeup to the gym and the beach.) I've been thinking these will be even more precious to me when I'm a mom eventually, because it's so quick to apply and from what I understand, new moms don't have a ton of time to do makeup every AM. I discovered them when my mom gave me a gift set for Christmas a few years ago with a small stick of every color, so I've tried them all (and love them all), but here are the three in my daily rotation...View Article
Tippi is SO SORRY for eating her dad's gardening/golfing hat. And I am SO GRATEFUL for the outpouring of love and support after the blog I shared Monday. You guys are all amazing humans, and I feel really lucky to have so many friends in it with me here in Hollywood (as well as my mom's book club in it with me long distance, most of whom have reached out with concern - 2nd MOMS, I LOVE YOU AND I'M STILL TRUCKIN' ALONG MY DREAM), and also so many of you internet strangers who've become internet friends. Some of you have asked if that post was the end of the blog; I'm sorry for any confusion, it definitely wasn't! I love this blog and having the outlet to write every day, and I love connecting with all of you. I'm just trying to get the confidence/courage to fully jump back into the shark-filled waters of La La Land and the pursuit of a creative career there, too. And after all of your encouraging messages, I feel better about attempting both. So, THANK YOU. Here are a few other things that inspired me (or distracted me) during this emotional week!View Article
Yesterday, "School of Rock" WAS NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY. I cried. My mom cried. The dog peed in the bed. It was a day full of joy and we are beyond grateful and excited. I've written before (many times) about what a shitshow Hollywood is (my friend Allison says it better than I ever could), and also about how very hard Tony worked to get to where he is now. To celebrate, I ran 6.6 miles around our new neighborhood, jumped in the pool and then ate a pile of Tony's favorite take-out BBQ on some bistro tables we got at the Rose Bowl flea market. Things are insane and heartbreaking and scary around the world right now, and I'm sending love and light out to everyone, and trying to be present and cherish every moment of the life I have. I hope you all have the happiest weekend! Here's what I'm grateful for this week...View Article
This week, Heels in the Hills' resident mommy blogger (and one of the most loving, selfless, inspiring and dedicated mommies I know) Barbara King is sharing a hilarious ode to televisions everywhere. Here is her open letter apology for writing them off pre-kids... (I know I won't be that good of a mom to even PRETEND I will write TV off. I'm already looking forward to putting the TV on for my kids. When I was a kid, I loved "Reading Rainbow," and also "Cry Baby" starring Johnny Depp. They will appreciate that kind of art, too.)View Article
We are mid-move/remodel right now and we are temporarily without internet, so I'm feeling very bohemian-millennial penning this modern-day love letter to the people of the internet as I sip a giant Starbucks and type at a small table covered in cream and pastry dust. It's past my lunchtime and I get hangry, so I'm gonna make it quick... Here's what I've been trolling online in between trying to convince Tony we NEED a flamingo shower curtain for the guest room (which has the original pink tiles from when the house was built in 1939 that are the exact shade of a flamingo, making this an inspired and brilliant choice)! HAPPY HUMP DAY!View Article
