I am NOT pregnant. This is NOT a pregnancy announcement. But one of my favorite pastimes is fear spiraling about childbirth and what an inadequate mother I'll be one day, so this book really spoke to my soul. Could not put it down. For September's book club pick (coming in at the very end of the month - sorry guys, I just can't get my shit together), I'm selecting my latest, greatest fave novel: Kaui Hart Hemmings' "How To Party With An Infant." It's a hilarious and sweet story about a single mom navigating the intense San Francisco "mom scene," who - in a search for her own identity - enters the San Francisco Mommy Club's cookbook writing contest. I don't have kids, but I found it really relatable - I think anyone can relate to searching for a pack of friends to fit in with, adapting to life's unexpected turns and (especially for me, at this point in my life), trying to achieve a dream that seems unattainable or silly, and make something of your life that you can be proud of...View Article
If you love Amy Schumer and her new book "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo" as much as I do, you will LOVE Jessi Klein's "You'll Grow Out Of It." Probably because Jessi is the head writer for Inside Amy Schumer. Also, because she's written for "Saturday Night Live," "Transparent," "Kroll Show" and a million other super funny things. You guys, I am FULLY aware that it is basically the end of July and I'm just now getting my sh*t together for our virtual book club. I am ALSO aware that I chose the most talked about book of the summer, "The Girls" by Emma Cline. I've been dying to pick it up since I read that it was written by a 27-year-old who was paid a (reported) $2 MILLION DOLLAR ADVANCE to write it, her debut novel. WHAT. I'm a jealous and competitive person by nature (hello, I picked a career in Hollywood, arguably the nastiest industry on the planet!), so I had to read it to see what was up. I'm so glad I did, because it is beautifully written and impossible to put down.View Article
