Tony and I were in Santa Barbara for a wedding this weekend, and I brought this silk wrap dress along for the post-wedding brunch. We were taking embarrassing blogger photos by the beach when I heard a voice shout, "HEELS IN THE HILLS!" I turned around, thrilled to meet my adoring public, and spotted Lillian Grant, the prettiest girl from my high school in northern California. (LILLIAN. Even her name is perfect.) She was in Santa Barbara for a different wedding with her fancy European boyfriend who lightly kissed me on BOTH cheeks like a true European! Guys. Lillian isn't just "high school pretty," she's model gorgeous. Literally. I'm pretty sure she's an actual model. As I breathlessly filled Tony in later, she lives in Italy and could probably be an Instagram celebrity or lifestyle blogger that people actually follow because they just want to be her, but she's too cool. She's an artist. A cool artist. Have I made it clear how cool she is? I wanted to be her 15 years ago, and I still want to be her now. (Alas, I wasn't her, I was the girl who spray tanned only her legs and once waxed the skin off her face when attempting an eyebrow wax.) Anyway, long story short, I practically crapped myself that she remembered me and reads my blog. So now it's not just my mom and her book club and a few of you nice strangers who sometimes comment reading, it's also Lillian Grant. HI LILLIAN. And she complimented me on this dress, and she would know because she's a model (I think) and is doing all sorts of cool art with Italian textiles. So this post is dedicated to Lillian, and this gorg dress that I got at my favorite boutique in all the land, Sunroom in Austin...View Article

My sweet, sweet husband got me this dress for Christmas AND photographed me in it with the new iPhone camera lenses he got me for Valentine's Day. It's made of a super soft and stretchy T-shirt material, and is comfy enough to sleep in. (*Full disclosure: I drank so much champagne on Valentine's Day, I think I did sleep in it. I don't remember.) It's also currently on sale for $19.99. I bought the boots at a clearance sale on a trip to Colorado almost a decade ago, and justify my hoarding by still wearing all of the stuff I hang onto. Here I am, posing awkwardly in my backyard because I love attention. I didn't wear Spanx because I like to be comfs and let it all hang out, but I'm regretting that now because I ate half a pan of brownies before we took these pics. Oh well. Sharing anyway BECAUSE I'M A REAL GIRL with a brownie belly when I'm not sucking in sosososo hard. Happy Monday!View Article
A few weeks ago, I visited Austin with my dad and brother and forced my dad to photograph me for the blog, calling it "work." Proof that the parental instinct is stronger than anything (including common sense, in this case) my dad supported me and my dreams. I bought this dress to wear to my Bridesmaids' Luncheon way back in July when I was still legally single. It is what I affectionately refer to as "tablecloth chic." I love it because it covers my arms, and yet the wind can still blow through the woven lace, so it's perfect for fall in Los Angeles (which is still in the 90's). And you'll be happy to know that it is currently majorly on sale and under $100! Grab one if you like and let's be twinsies.View Article
I'm currently in Austin with my dad and brother, staying at a hotel that doubles as a pretty sweet spot for a photo shoot. I normally make my husband take pictures of me while I bark things like "Get an angle that hides all the tacos I ate for breakfast!" at him. But, he's at home working. So, last night I enlisted my ever supportive father to be my photographer. We had some cocktails for liquid courage by the pool with my brother while I forced Dad to study the angles of "chic" and "interesting" fashion photos on other blogs. His response to all of them: "Very nice," "Lovely!" and "I can do that." Turns out, he can do that... Here's what he came up with for this pretty fall dress in Pantone's color of the year. (Honestly, I think he's just relieved I'm channeling my energy into things like this, as opposed to writing "aging stripper" roles for myself like I did for years at the Groundlings.) Watch out, David LaChapelle, the Mur Man is gunning for your job!View Article
FriYAY, amiright??? I am so excited for this weekend. Two of our favorite people are getting married tomorrow, and they have billed their nuptials "the wedding to end all marriages" - all you need to know is that it has a Bar Mitzvah carnival theme and they have insisted I wear my wedding gown. I CAN'T WAIT. Tonight, Tony's new Groundlings show starts previews and will be running Fridays and Saturdays until Thanksgiving; everything he's shown me so far is beautifully, hilariously insane and I'm stoked to see it live, with wigs and all. And Sunday, we'll be hanging and catching up with the "School of Rock" gang. (Somewhere in there, I need to finally tackle our wedding Thank You notes.) Even though it's the end of September, it still feels like an oven outside here in L.A., so I'm still dressing like I'm on summer break. This is one of my favorite buys I grabbed during a Memorial Day sale and have been wearing non-stop since...View Article
Tony and I are spending a long weekend in Austin, and I am hereby declaring it my favorite city in the universe. Goodbye forever, Los Angeles! (Or, at least until tonight). I've got a few breakfast tacos in my lap that I'm eating in bed while I write and I've got to get out of bed and get ready to go eat somewhere else soon, so more on why Austin is my new favorite city later this week... But for now, here are a few pictures my favorite person Tony took of me in my favorite dress at my new favorite hotel, the Hotel Saint Cecilia. I never want to leave!View Article
