When I first moved into this house, the backyard was 90% dirt. I loved it anyway. The house felt like a home, and even though it's centrally located, it feels a million miles away from the city. The neighborhood reminded me of my grandparents' home in Mill Valley. And I fell in love with the potential of the backyard; when I went outside, I heard birds, the wind in the eucalyptus trees and the kids playing at the nearby elementary school - NOT the creak of the gate announcing that a stranger on drugs had wandered up the driveway to go for a swim in the pool next to the guesthouse I was renting before I moved here. I was excited to put my stamp on this steep, bizarrely L-shaped patch of dirt; it was my little corner of Los Angeles. And when Tony and I started dating, I finally did... It's been a work in progress over the past few years, and here is how it's turned out!View Article

I've lived in our house since January of 2010, and fell in love with it partly because of its open floor plan and giant picture windows. But, because I've lived there so long, I outgrew my 23-year-old decorating taste... Which was primarily driven by studs. Studded everything. I called it "Old Hollywood Glamour," but looking at it now, it strikes me as more "Kardashian Glamour." The accent walls were a burnt orange when I moved in, and one of the first changes I made was painting them bright blue. When Tony and I got engaged years later, it seemed like a good time to make a style change to go along with this new chapter in our life together. And to lose a few of the studs and make it look like a man also lived there. Here are the changes we made, with lots of help and guidance from one of our best friends and interior design extraordinaire Amber McDermitt, co-founder of Spruce Design & Organization...View Article
Tony and I (emphasis on I) recently decided to remodel our guest bedroom and turn it into the master bedroom. I've been in our place for nearly six years, and it just felt like it was time for a change. Lucky for me, one of my best friends, Amber McDermitt, is an interior designer and co-owner of Spruce Design & Organization, and she agreed to help me transform our new bedroom. I told her I wanted to live inside of Pinterest, and I'm so happy with how it turned out!View Article
Tony and I are in the midst of updating our house with some minor remodeling and redecorating. I've lived here since 2010, and have outgrown my obsessive passion for studded everything. (Also, the dogs have chewed up a lot of things.) It's time for a facelift. It all started this summer, when I had a nervous breakdown before our engagement party and thought repainting our blue accent walls grey would make me feel better. Now, I'm slowly turning into William Randolph Hearst; as soon as we finish one project, I start brainstorming what to transform next. Tony is loving it. (*This is a lie. But he's being a really good sport.) I'll be sharing pictures of the finished projects on the blog over the coming months, starting with yesterday's sweet snags at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.View Article
It's been a while since I've posted in the j'adorable things series, so here is a month's worth of happiness! Tony and I are looking forward to a weekend packed with exciting work events (he'll be live Tweeting the Hart of Dixie finale tonight, and keep an eye on Instagram tomorrow!) And, I will be going on my first camping trip as an adult. Stay tuned to hear how that pans out... Have the happiest weekend!View Article
