One of my mom's favorite ways to guilt trip my dad is to softly, longingly lament, "Paul McCartney NEVER spent a night apart from Linda throughout their entire marriage. Not until she DIED." I have no idea if this is a true statement or not, but I heard it countless times growing up, whenever my dad would take a business trip (or golf trip). And this weekend, my dad, brother and I took a last minute trip to Austin to visit my uncle. Both Mom and Tony couldn't come, and so yet again, my dad is reminded that he is not Paul McCartney. And I'm not either... And neither is Tony. Because it's really, really, really hard to always be in the same place. Life happens.View Article

Tony and I drove home from my parents' house late last night, and we are still delirious. We went straight from Vancouver to northern California for one of my childhood best friends' wedding, and had so much fun we didn't want to leave... Which resulted in us not rolling up to our driveway until the middle of the night. We've been gone for almost 2 months, and married for 6 weeks, but for the first time, we're arriving home as newlyweds... Any advice on how to beat the bridal blues and savor the newlywed phase?View Article

It is outrageous and disturbing that this took so long and was ever a question to begin with and not a natural right, but my heart is bursting with happiness that the Supreme Court sided with reason, rationality and love: Marriage is now legal for everyone, everywhere in the United States. States cannot ban same-sex marriage. I can't wait to tell my kids about this momentous day one day, and for them to roll their eyes and be like, "You're so old, Mom. Obviously anyone who wants to get married should be able to! How were you even alive when that wasn't allowed? Wasn't that, like, in the Dark Ages?"View Article
I know that at its core, this wedding is really about Tony and me and the life we're creating together, so this may seem silly to say, but (aside from the day Tony proposed), the wedding has never felt more real than this past Saturday, at my bridal shower. I've been planning the wedding for so long that Pinterest is haunting my dreams. I've spent more time agonizing over the logistics of parking and who we've forgotten off the guest list than I have thinking about what I'll say to Tony in my vows (I know. I'm ashamed.) But this Saturday was all about the women I love who love me, coming together to support and celebrate me...View Article
