I am a makeup junkie (which is a polite term for makeup hoarder), and tend to hold onto everything, so I've got a lot of products I dip into every now and then but last way past their expiration date because they're used so infrequently. However, I reach for Laura Mercier's Caviar Sticks so often I find myself having to buy new ones all the time. They're so fast and easy - color on your eye like a crayon, blend it with your finger and you're good to go. And it lasts all day (even through sweat sessions at the gym, or a day at the beach. I know this because I wear makeup to the gym and the beach.) I've been thinking these will be even more precious to me when I'm a mom eventually, because it's so quick to apply and from what I understand, new moms don't have a ton of time to do makeup every AM. I discovered them when my mom gave me a gift set for Christmas a few years ago with a small stick of every color, so I've tried them all (and love them all), but here are the three in my daily rotation...View Article
In honor of the fact that I showered AND washed my hair AND put on make-up AND wore real clothes and not sweats today, I'm sharing this "day to night" make-up look. As my grandmother used to say, I "put my face on" for a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago and my Instagram Husband (and real life husband) Tony snapped these pics before we left. It was an early evening backyard barbecue, and I wanted to go for something that would still pop in photos and look pretty once it got dark out (but not look like a child beauty pageant contestant in the harsh daylight). Here's what I used...View Article
GUYS, I GOT SOME FAN MAIL! (Actually, it was an email from a member of my mom's book club asking what hair products I use. Counting it as a win nonetheless). I decided to turn my response into a blog because I love talking hair. A new cut//color//style can give you a new lease on life, and also hair can't gain weight. Here's what I do with mine on a near-daily basis (sometimes I do nothing because I'm feeling like a garbage person, and sometimes I use tools I can burn myself with because I need to spend time in society.) But this is my easy//I-might interact-with-people look!View Article
The mission statement for Violet Grey is simple: The best in beauty, from those who know best. The company (founded in 2012 and shopable online and at its flagship store on Melrose Place) is curated by the most in-demand makeup artists in Hollywood, and takes the guesswork out of buying beauty products because they only sell a limited number of products that these professionals actually use on their A-list clients. The site operates as both a blog - with everything to tutorials to celebrity makeup artist profiles (like Emily Blunt's) - to a store, where you can shop the recommended products. And over the long weekend, my BFF Katierose and I took a masterclass from Violet Grey makeup artist Kira Nasrat and editorial director Christina Han. Kira has the personality of Amy Adams in "Enchanted" and Christina used to work at Vogue, and Katierose and I decided immediately we would do anything to be a part of their girl/celeb squad. Here's what we learned (and bought)...View Article
Friday night, I went to a Korean spa for the first time with a pack of my girlfriends. It was both the most traumatic experience I've ever willingly paid for, as well as one of the best. I knew very little about what I was in for, beyond the fact that all the magazines and Instagram and beauty experts keep telling me Korean beauty treatments and products are the fountain of youth, and also my bestie Katierose is obsessed with these spas and I am obsessed with her, so. Plus, it was $100 for a full-body scrub, a massage, a facial, and a hair wash over the course of 85 minutes. $100 is a lot of money, but as far as spa treatments go, that's on the very affordable end. However, I should have done a little more homework so I'd be prepared for what I was actually in for... Like that EVERYONE IS NAKED, INCLUDING YOU.View Article
