After a brief Book Club hiatus, during which I momentarily lost my mind and only consumed bridal magazines, bridal blogs (and copious amounts of alcohol and comfort food), I am back to reading real, actual books that don't come with pictures of skinny girls in white dresses. On our honeymoon, I devoured "Luckiest Girl Alive," which I highly recommend if you loved "Gone Girl." And after that, I read "All The Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr, which I just finished last week. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since...View Article

In honor of Father's Day this weekend, I've selected Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast for June's Book Club. It's a memoir about aging parents, which seems like a beautiful way to honor my dad! HI DAD! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! CAN YOU BELIEVE YOU'VE BEEN A DAD FOR ALMOST THIRTY YEARS?! IT DOESN'T GET EASIER, DOES IT?! (I also picked this book because it's been on my list for months, and people keep telling me how incredible it is. I love anything that makes me cry from laughing and cry from feeling all the feelings, and this National Book Award Finalist apparently achieves both in spades...)View Article
In honor of Mother's Day, this month's book club pick is "Mother, Mother" by Koren Zailckas. It's a thriller about an evil, controlling mother who will stop at nothing to preserve her family's "perfect" facade. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOTHER!!!!! (All the rest of ya'll: Don't forget, it's this Sunday May 10. Don't forget to buy a gift, candy, flowers and a card that waxes poetic about how you'll never be half the woman she is. You could even give your mother this book, if you're passive aggressive like me and my mother!) (Related fun fact: The author also wrote the book "Smashed," which my mother would say is an ideal pick for Daughter's Day. Which should be a holiday, if you ask me.)View Article
I'm hopelessly behind on my one-woman internet book club. So, this month I'm taking a page out of one of my favorite writer's book (blog) and declaring this month an Articles Club! I first read about the idea on A Cup of Jo. Her manifesto: "An articles club would be just like a book club, but we'll read articles. We'd all read the same story--from, say, The New Yorker or Elle--and chat over wine and snacks. It would be fascinating, timely and a much easier commitment than a book club (because, honestly, who ever finishes the book on time?)" I know I certainly don't.View Article
Did you finish last month's book club pick, "The Girl on the Train?" I haven't. (Procrastination is a real problem for me. I promise, I'm going to catch up!) But, "In the Drink" by Kate Christensen is next on my list. It's actually been at the top of my list for a long time - it was recommended to me by my friend and mentor Michele, who is one of the most brilliant writers I know. We have a lot of favorite novels in common, and she loves Maria Semple as much as I do. She told me a while ago this book is a must for anyone who loves Ms. Semple's writing, and I've been meaning to pick it up since. And after the dark January and February books, I'm ready for something fun and funny. So, this month I am finally reading "In the Drink!"View Article
