When I don't want to look like I ate a Shake Shack cheeseburger, cheese fries and a peanut butter chocolate milkshake at 10pm last night (which I totally did, and do more often than I would like to admit), I reach for Karen's CC Skin Perfector. This is not an ad. I paid full price for the bottle you see in my hand. And I am OBSESSED...View Article
A few weeks ago, I attended an event at Soho House called SKIN FOOD, hosted by therapeutic skin coach Hayley Roy and health coach Tara Curran. I am a product junkie when it comes to skincare (and a junk food junkie when it comes to nutrition), so my skin tends to be all over the place. I SO loved their advice on approaching skincare from a natural and holistic perspective, focusing more on what you're putting into your body as opposed to dealing with the damage after the fact, that I asked them to jump on Heels in the Hills to share their knowledge and hot tips for glowing, healthy skin...View Article
When the kind people over at Tatcha reached out to collaborate, they had me at "geisha" skincare routine - my skin is naturally the shade geishas paint their face to achieve, so it felt like kismet. (In fact, just this morning, my husband posted a photo of an albino baby deer to Facebook, calling it my spirit animal. Thanks again, Tony, nothing makes a girl feel beautiful quite like being compared to an animal!) The product line is inspired by the beauty practices of geishas and the company looks to a 200-year-old handbook detailing their routine to guide their product design, while also incorporating modern technology. Red algae, green tea and rice bran appear in nearly all of their products. The creator and CEO of the line calls it "sushi minus the fish." FOR YOUR FACE. I love sushi almost as much as my dog-children, so I am very into this...View Article
Guys, I have a confession to make. I bought some pills online and I have no idea what's really in them (Polypodium leucotomos Calaguala extract appears to be the active ingredient), but I'm slurping one down every morning because it's supposed to preserve my youth. Or, technically, help "maintain the skin's ability to protect against sun-related effects and aging." They're called Heliocare Oral Capsules. I'm telling myself that it's basically like drinking sunscreen.View Article
My latest beauty obsession is skin oil, mostly because it promises to preserve youth, sort of like how the pickle juice in a jar preserves the pickle. (The facial oil is the juice and I am the pickle in this scenario). I was wary of face oils at first because I've always broken out easily, so slathering oil on my face sounded counter-intuitive when it seemed like my body was producing enough of its own. But I kept reading that oils are beneficial for those with oily complexions, so I decided to give it a go. I've tried several, and this one is my favorite so far...View Article
